Just left the 9:30 club in D.C. I Performed “Capital Music” with Kinpen Slim. Wale and Bun B. were supposed to show up, but that didnt seem to happen…. I feel bad for the people that payed $35 to see Bun B….. Whatever, at least they got to see me :)
Crowd wasnt too thick, but I havent been on stage in a minute so it was cool. I remember back when I used to be nervous to get on stage….. Damn time sure flies, I havent really been on stage in a good 6 months, but It’s just like riding a bike. Once you realize that you are in control, it all makes sense.
I used to watch the faces of the people in the crowd when I performed. After every other note or run I’d look around to see if I had gained approval. My performance was only fueled by the response I was getting. It was always a performance based on reaction from those that I was supposed to be giving something to react about.
One day I realized…. fuck their reaction! Its my stage, I need to bring people to my level. They need to feed off of my energy…. react the way I want them to react. I mean, that’s why people come to watch you perform anyway right? They want you to give them something to react about. Not the other way around…..
Thing is, thats the way life works. If you want to be a leader you cant want for a reaction from the crowd to fuel your passion….. Nope, you have to believe in your passion and cause even if you stand on stage alone. Draw people to you, give them a reason to listen, and have faith that they will eventually feel you.
That’s just my two cents
Check out KingPen Slim’s “Beam Up” Album. This is one of the most well put together albums I’ve heard in a minute. This up and coming D.C. rapper is really shaking up the scene right now.
Some featured artists include: Raheem DeVaughn, X.O. Kevin Ross and myself (Tony Blount)
You’ve got nothing to lose, its free. Give it a shot. Beam Up!
